  • New: plant-controlled process control
Priva is introducing a revolutionary new plant-controlled concept for process control - Priva TopCrop. Including the plants directly in the control loop means that their precise transpiration capacity is known at all times. This allows the climate to be controlled directly and precisely and to be actively controlled based on the desired crop activity: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

For the grower or crop consultant, Priva TopCrop is an additional tool that allows the plant itself to influence the climate. It measures and responds directly and works with more ease than the current control systems. There are fewer variables to be set by the grower, which reduces the risk of errors. And the grower who makes the fewest mistakes achieves the best quality and the highest production.

Active control based on crop activity
The new concept comprises the existing Connext controls for the greenhouse climate, along with an additional control that provides irrigation, heating and ventilation when the plants demand it. The system is based on the crop activity. This is measured via the plants' water balance, in other words, from the take-up, the transportation and the transpiration of water. The purpose of the control is to ensure that the plant always has enough water to transport nutrients and assimilates, to build new fibres and to keep itself cool. The crop control promotes balanced crop growth, without growth disorders or abnormalities. This can be achieved by inhibiting the transpiration or even by giving the plant additional stimulus. Transpiration is, after all, the driving force behind the take-up of water and nutrients.

  • Priva TopCrop is effective in tomato cultivation
What is special about this latest control concept is the combination of measurements at the plant and its immediate vicinity and the control system's short response time. The value of this can be seen in particular climate conditions which do not, by definition, give rise to actions such as ventilating or heating. Tomato grower Pieter van Dijk has had recent experience of Priva TopCrop.

In the near future experience using Priva TopCrop will be gained with various crops. After all, each crop group reacts differently to the controls that are set for irrigation, heating and ventilation. The actual product introduction is planned for 2012.
